Babcock Drums
I began playing drums at the age of seven. More than 20 years later I haven't looked back. I am primarily self-taught. I have had a hand full of lessons which normally resulted in the instructor giving me my money back. I have attended various clinics and got to meet a lot of the world’s greatest drummers. in the past few years I've gotten into electronic drumming. I enjoy making differnet sounds and textures. Being able to make the drums not sound like the drums. About the music My music is a montage designed to creep in the back door and kill you while you’re sleeping. One objective is to do away with "top forty" broadcasting because it’s wrong, unethical, uncreative and most importantly unmusical. (Give the bottom sixty some!) I like funny songs, weird songs, songs that are different. Why should you have serious songs all the time? That’s what I think is wrong with the music business. Everyone wants to be taken seriously–my art, soul, craft, my whatever it is.WHO CARES! Let's have good time. You can have a good time on many different levels, you can laugh, you can listen, you can think about it, you can tap your foot, you can dance,or you can even wonder what's going on? Scratch your head and form opinions . . . like real life. My music is not designed to reinforce a lifestyle. It’s coming from a different place. Mainly instrumentals, occasionally with vocal. It is an inferior type of music because you are in the driver’s seat to what is happening. Expect the unexcepted!
Ideas....A solo electronic show? You may ask yourself why a solo show . . . to be honest it gives me the freedom to express how I feel and to create how I feel. In a band situation you often forced to assume the personality of the leader or the band, leaving your own ideas in the background. How is this possible, a solo show, one might assume that the show is just a big drum solo? How wrong! That would be the easiest thing for me to do, but when have I ever taken the easy way? The standard idea for a show is made up of sequences, samples and loops that I have created using a mix of Midi and manipulated audio that has been mixed together on a portable Digital Studio Workstation that I control on the fly with various other devices, while playing live drums. Music is a subjective thing, what is music to one person, is noise to another.
